Question :1

Shri Ramlal distributed his savings among his wife, two sons and one daughter in such a way that wife gets double of what each son gets and each son gets double of what the daughter gets. If the amount received by each son is Rs. 48,000, what was the total amount distributed by Shri Ramlal?

Answer: (e)

Amount received by each son = Rs. 48000

∴ Amount received by her daughter = Rs. 24000 and amount received by the wife = Rs. 96000

∴ Total amount distributed by Shri Ramlal

= Rs. (96000 + 2 × 48000 + 24000) = Rs. 216000

Question :2

An amount of money is to be distributed among P, Q and R in the ratio of 5: 8 : 12 respectively. If the total share of Q and R is four times that of P, what is definitely P' s share?

Answer: (d)

Question :3

Mr. Shrimat inherits 2505 gold coins and divides them amongst his 3 sons – Bharat, Parat and Marat – in a certain ratio. Out of the total coins received by each of them, Bharat sells 30 coins, Parat donates his 30 coins and Marat loses 25 coins. Now the ratio of gold coins with them is 46 : 4 : 34 respectively. How many coins did Parat receive from his father?

Answer: (d)

According to the question,

46x + 30 + 41x + 30 + 34x + 25 = 2505

⇒121x = 2505 – 85 = 2420⇒x= ${2420}/{121}$ = 20

∴ Number of coins received by Parat

= 41x + 30 = 41 × 20 + 30 = 850

Question :4

Rs.50 is divided among 6 men, 12 women and 17 boys so that 2 men get as much as 5 boys and 2 women as much as 3 boys. Find the share of a boy.

Answer: (a)

2m = 5b

2w = 3b

Combining the two relations : (Follow the rule)

2m = 5b

3b = 2w

2 × 3m = 5 × 3b = 5 × 2w⇒6m = 15b = 10w

Now, to find the ratio of wages of a man, a woman and a boy,

let 6m = 15b = 10 w = k (say)

∴ m = ${k/6}; b = k/{15};w = k/{10}$

∴ m : w : b = $1/6 : 1/10 : 1/15$ = 5 : 3 : 2

The ratio of wages of 6 men, 12 women and 17 boys

= 6 × 5 : 12 × 3 : 17 × 2 = 30 : 36 : 34

∴ 17 boys get $50/{30 + 36 + 34}$ × 34 = Rs. 17

∴ 1 boy gets Rs. 1

Question :5

The ratio of three numbers is 3 : 4 : 5 and sum of their squares is 1250. The sum of the numbers is

Answer: (b)

Let numbers be 3x, 4x, 5x

∴$(3x)^2 + (4x)^2 + (5x)^2$ = 1250

$9x^2 + 16x^2 + 25x^2$ = 1250

$50x^2$ = 1250

$x^2$ = 25

x = 5

∴Numbers are = 15, 20, 25

Sum = 15 + 20 + 25 = 60
